چکیده

Various subsets of the tracial state space of a unital C∗-algebra are studied. The largest of these subsets has a natural interpretation as the space of invariant means. II1-factor representations of a class of C ∗-algebras considered by Sorin Popa are also studied. These algebras are shown to have an unexpected variety of II1-factor representations. This general theory is related to various other problems as well. Applications include: (1) A characterization of R-embeddable factors in terms of Lance’s WEP. (2) A classification theorem for certain simple, nuclear C∗-algebras with unique trace. (3) For a self-adjoint operator, there always exists a filtration such that the finite section method (from numerical analysis) works as well as could be hoped for. (4) New examples of non-tracially AF algebras which answer – negatively – questions of Sorin Popa and Huaxin Lin. Dedicated to my big, beautiful family.

ON THE USE OF KULSHAMMER TYPE INVARIANTS IN REPRESENTATION THEORY

Since 2005 a new powerful invariant of an algebra has emerged using the earlier work of Horvath, Hethelyi, Kulshammer and Murray. The authors studied Morita invariance of a sequence of ideals of the center of a nite dimensional algebra over a eld of nite characteristic. It was shown that the sequence of ideals is actually a derived invariant, and most recently a slightly modied version o...

The witness set of coexistence of quantum effects and its preservers

One of unsolved problems in quantum measurement theory is to characterize coexistence of quantum effects. In this paper, applying positive operator matrix theory, we give a mathematical characterization of the witness set of coexistence of quantum effects and obtain a series of properties of coexistence. We also devote to characterizing bijective morphisms on quantum effects leaving the witness...

Group Actions on Central Simple Algebras

Let G be a group, F a field, and A a finite-dimensional central simple algebra over F on which G acts by F -algebra automorphisms. We study the ideals and subalgebras of A which are preserved by the group action. Let V be the unique simple module of A. We show that V is a projective representation of G and A = EndD(V ) makes V into a projective representation. We then prove that there is a natu...
